Welcome Vicki Batman with TEMPORARILY OUT OF LUCK

It's great to have you here, Vicki. I have a few questions for our friends and readers.

When did you first get the urge to write?

I began writing poetry when I was nine and continued until my twenties. Then I moved to writing and producing newsletters for various groups. But when I read Dick Francis’ books, I finally confessed to Handsome how I wished I could write like him. It took a long time. Then I went on a road trip with girlfriends. One friend passed the time playing car games, a silly Q&A. She asked us to write the opening of a book using the word “window.” I couldn’t conjure up anything then because I was afraid of being stupid. So, I went home, wrote eight chapters, showed my friend who read the pages and said, “Keep going.” I did.

What happened to your first ever manuscript?

It has been published! Temporarily Employed is the first in the Hattie Cooks Mysteries.

What do your family and friends think of your passion for writing?

Handsome rolls his eyes. My boys pray/beg nothing is written about them. Some friends and family have read the books.

Have you ever used someone you know as a character in a book?

Lordy. The things people say and do are perfect opportunities. I use scrap paper, email, and text myself bits all the time.

Tell us about this book.

Great job. What man? And murder. Newly employed at Wedding Wonderland, Hattie Cooks is learning the industry from a woman she greatly admires. When her former brother-in-law is found dead in his luxury SUV, all fingers point to Hattie’s sister who is planning her own I dos.

Detective Allan Wellborn is caught between a rock and a hard place—Hattie’s family and investigating the murder of a well-connected Sommerville resident, the same loser who was once married to Hattie’s sister. Determining who’s the bad guy—or gal—isn’t going to be easy and sure to piss off someone.

Can Hattie beat the clock to find out who murdered Tracey’s ex before she is charged with the crime and her wedding is ruined?

Give us an example of a favorite scene.

Stuart bounded to my side. “Hattie. Allan. You’re naturals.”

I rolled my eyes. Great. I passed the tango test.

Allan chuckled.

I stayed in position for what seemed like hours but most likely were five loonnng minutes. My lower back spasmed, which caused me to grimace. Allan pulled ever-so-gently and restored me to my feet. I removed my hands from his. Moisture coated my palms and sweat dripped down my back along my spine. I was a wreck.

“Thank you so much, couple.” A beaming Ms. Yolanda rotated. “I’m impressed by your length and beauty.”

Length and beauty—my ass.

Is this book part of a series?

Temporarily out of Luck is the third book in the Hattie Cooks mysteries.
